Ready To Feel The Barre Burn? Try Barre With Britany
Barre is a style of training that combines elements of ballet with yoga and Pilates, but don’t worry, you don’t need to be a dancer or yogi to try it!
Sweat trainer Britany Williams has created this program so it’s suitable for all levels of fitness.
What is Barre with Britany?
This 10-week at-home training program will introduce you to Britany’s unique style of barre, which blends traditional elements of ballet and Pilates with high-intensity movements to improve your strength, flexibility, coordination and control.
The workouts are designed to ensure each muscle group is fatigued using small targeted movements, high repetition, and light weights or resistance.
There are two introductory weeks to get you familiar with Britany’s style of training and basic barre movements, so you can feel more confident with your technique before moving to more intermediate classes. These introductory weeks have three classes, with an optional fourth workout.
For weeks three to ten, there are four classes a week. There are two cardio workouts per week throughout the program — you can choose whether you do low-intensity cardio or high-intensity training.
All Barre with Britany classes are full-body workouts that follow a series of short sequences to make up a 30 to 40-minute session, but each one has a different focus.
Each week, you’ll find:
Full Body with Bridge
Explore traditional barre poses to strengthen your arms and legs before finishing with a bridge sequence on the mat.
Full Body with Plank
Challenge your core and strengthen your legs with this fusion of traditional barre and mat Pilates.
Full Body with Cardio
Strengthen your legs and elevate your heart rate as you strengthen glutes and legs, finishing with a cool down to leave you feeling accomplished.
Full Body with Push-Up & Cardio
Alternate between standing positions and mat exercises to work your whole body. This class will challenge you and elevate your heart rate.
Elevate your heart rate and activate your core. This class includes standing sequences and mat work for a full-body workout.
Do I need any equipment?
Barre with Britany can be completed in the comfort of your home or anywhere you have enough room to move on a yoga mat, with a chair nearby - meaning it’s suitable no matter how big or small your space is!
You will need:
- Barre or chair
- Yoga mat
- Dumbbells or hand weights
- Resistance band
The barre is used to hold onto for balance while performing isometric exercises, however, it can easily be replaced with a chair. The resistance band should be a small loop, or you can leave it out altogether.
Choose dumbbells or hand weights that feel comfortable during the exercises. A 1.5kg (3lb) weight is a good option to start with — if you find you are struggling to perform the exercises with the correct form, switch to a lower weight. If you don’t have access to this equipment, you can swap dumbbells or hand weights for two safe, heavy objects, such as bags of food, water bottles, milk bottles filled with sand, or other heavy household items — get creative!
When selecting any alternative equipment, make sure it’s safe and secure prior to starting your workout. No one wants to end up covered in sand mid-workout!
If you don’t have any equipment, simply use your own body weight to complete the exercises.
Can I do a Barre With Britany workout if I’m doing another Sweat program?
Of course! If you’re currently following another Sweat program, you can try Britany’s on-demand barre classes without leaving your current program. In the Workouts tab of the Sweat app, tap the On Demand section. Here, you can either choose Britany as your Sweat Trainer, scroll down to the Pilates & Barre section, or go to Programs and choose Barre with Britany.
If you can’t get outside to complete a cardio workout or want to try something new, Barre with Britany is a great option to complete your cardio goals for the week.
