3 Tips For Better Digestion Throughout the Holiday Season!

If you follow me on Instagram ( @shaylaquinn ) then you've probably heard me mention recently that I am starting to pay more attention to my digestion and overall gut health; and while I am still in the beginning stages of figuring out all of that out, I am wasting no time incorporating a few things that I do know help with digestion and gut health- so I decided to share those 3 tips with you today!

Good digestion and overall gut health is MAJORLY important year round, but for me especially at this time of year! With the holiday season comes priceless time with our loved ones, fun and lots of delicious, and sometimes decadent food that can cause bloating and digestion issues (neither of which are fun!!)

Follow these 3 simple tips for better digestion, so you can enjoy all of the yummy indulgent holldy foods and skip the stomach ache all together!

TIP #1: DRINK LOTS OF WATER

If your body isn't getting enough water it's going to have a harder time functioning properly! Inadequate water in the body often results in constipation and trouble with digestion: when your body is dehydrated the colon pulls water from the stools in an effort to maintain hydration, thereby making them harder and difficult to pass; which means you're eliminating less often, which means you're storing waste rather than getting rid of it, which means more weight and toxicity. I always joke that's how I "keep my figure" but it's true: the quicker your body can break down food, absorb the nutrients from it and pass it, the lighter and healthier you'll look and feel ;)

Water is also an excellent detoxifier as it helps flush out toxins from the body and rid it of waste primarily through sweat, elimination and urine. It also promotes kidney function and reduces kidney stones by diluting the salts and minerals in urine that cause kidney stones.

TIP # 2: TAKE A PROBIOITC

Taking probiotics daily can repair your gut, transform a dysfunctional immune system, provide digestion support and immune support.

8 reasons I take a probiotic:

  • Improves digestion and food tolerance
  • Reduces gas, bloating and digestive discomfort
  • Aids in recovery of the flora after antibiotic use
  • Supports nutrient absorption
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Improves favorable immune response and supports the reduction of allergies and asthma
  • Improves regularity of bowel movements
  • Acidifies the digestive tract to support the growth of good bacteria

I have been taking the Silver Fern Ultimate Probiotic and love it becasue it's vegan, and it works! I highly reccomend it!

TIP #3: DRINK KOMBUCHA

As a non-soda drinker, I really enjoy kombucha as it's often times bubly and tastes almost carbonated. Besides the great taste, kombucha is great for digestion! In short, kombucha is a fermented probiotic tea rich in healthy bacterias!

Probiotics provide your gut with healthy bacteria that is very important for healthy digestion! Kombucha is great for more than just digestion too, check out this awesome diagram from Dr. Axe!
