Balancing Your Social Life With Fitness
Balancing your social life with fitness

I always get asked how I manage to live a social life while staying fit. SIMPLE. It's called balance.

I don't promote strict diets, no alcohol and not going out. We all have to live and have fun! For a while I was obsessed with staying fit and scared to gain weight if I went out and enjoyed a meal with friends or drank alcohol, I would always stay home and my life revolved around working out and staying fit. Then I realized, I'm wasting time I could be spending with friends and having fun just to LOOK good physically rather than FEELING good and having balance in my life.

It's all about having the right mindset. For me, fitness is more than just looking good physically, it's a lifestyle. If I go out, I make sure I get my workout done in the morning or at night before I do. You have to prioritize the important things in your life and still manage to have fun after! It's okay if you drink or if you choose not to, but don't do it just so you can have a six pack.

I've learned that having a balance in life will make you happier than revolving your life around something just to look “good”. I workout because I LOVE it. It makes me happy, entertained and I love pushing myself and doing things I never thought I could. Everyone's different, but it's nice to see results from all the hard work you put into something, either in your career or lifestyle.

Having a balance in life is what it's all about. Eat the foods you love, drink if you want to, hang out with your friends and do everything you love doing. But always remember the other side of it, workout, eat healthy 90% of the time and try to be happy doing all the things you love.

I look back at one of the years I was too obsessed with working out and think; I could have done so many things but chose to stay home because I was more concerned about calories than having a good time with my friends. Now that I have realized it's not a big deal, I go out more and have fun with my friends and don't really think about what calories I eat or drink.

As I've mentioned in a previous blog post "How alcohol affects your body", alcohol is not good for your health. This is why I choose to drink only certain types of alcohol. It's okay to have a drink here and there if that is what you want. What's important is getting back on track the next few weeks. As we get older recovery becomes more challenging and it can be hard to get back into your routine. But keep pushing yourself and remember why you started your fitness journey and don't let things like going out or having a drink and a delicious meal affect that.

You've gotten far enough, keep having a social life. Don't stop seeing your friends or doing fun things because you have to go to the gym. Time management is key to maintaining your social life. If you know you're going out at night, workout in the morning. If you manage to do this, you'll realize you'll stress less about fitting your workouts on your weekends while maintaining a social life.
