How to Mix Up Your Gym Routine

Before I started Bikini Body Guide, I was haphazardly lifting weights without a schedule or goal. I thought if I just moved some weights around, I'd get my goal body. Although I saw a little bit of progress, it was sooo slow. Then I found Kayla Itsines' program! I fell into a regular routine for over a YEAR! Some people asked if I was bored of it, and I said of course not because it was so exciting to see changes to my body in just 12 weeks! However, I then realized that even though I was doing BBG, I had also moved on to the second guide, and then I had the SWEAT app for awhile. I was mixing up the routine with new moves and exercises, which kept me going! If you've ever fallen into the same exercise regimen for awhile, you may be bored of it. Here are a couple of tips to mix up your gym routine to keep you motivated!

Try New Classes

In my city, there is always a new fitness studio opening up. You should definitely take advantage of these situations and sign up for a free trial of classes! Whether it's spin, yoga, or a gym, you can add these into your schedule to break up the monotony. I remember signing up for a trial of StudioHop when I was getting tired of my regular gym routine, and it kept me going for another MONTH! Without it, I definitely would have slacked or put my workout on pause. I got to try pilates for the first time, TRX training, new HIIT exercises, and more. I had never felt more in shape in my life, all because I kept trying something that challenged different parts of my body for a whole month.

Alternate Your Gym Routines

Just because you've found a new routine to mix things up doesn't mean you can't go back to your old one! Many times, I've gone back to BBG because I missed it and forgot how effective it was. There is so much mental strenght that goes into workouts as well. You may start slacking if you're used to one routine and feeling bored or know what to expect. Nowadays, I weightlift on some days, and also add in some BBG exercises if I feel like I haven't done enough. Or vice versa, I'll do BBG and then lift some more weights at the end! I don't even like doing HIIT too much anymore, but I listen to my body and do it when I feel like I need it. This might be counterintuitive to what I said in the beginning about haphazardly exercising without a goal, but once you've got a good routine down and are used to exercising, you will learn to listen to your body! That's the beauty of working out regularly.

The more you work out and gain muscle, the easier it is to stay fit and active. That's why it's so important to work hard to reach that point. I'm not saying you can slack off after. It really depends on your fitness goals and whether you're trying to maintain or gain. Either way, mixing up your gym routines is the best way to keep your motivation high!
