BUILD confidence in 2021 with my Sweat Challenge

I know that some women who are new to fitness steer clear of gyms and big equipment because it can be difficult to know where to start. But I want you to feel strong and confident — and I’m here to show you that you can do it!

My BUILD program combines powerlifting and bodybuilding to help you improve your lifting performance in three foundational exercises: the deadlift, the bench press and squats. My program can help you to increase lean muscle mass and strength, and my BUILD program for the Sweat Challenge has a similar training style, but has exclusive workouts to progressively push you over the six weeks. 

If you haven’t tried my BUILD program before, or aren’t familiar with big pieces of equipment in the gym, I’ve created two different variations of the program that will guide you every step of the way.

How to join the Sweat Challenge

If you're new to Sweat, you will need to download the app and subscribe. Look for the pink banner on the Sweat dashboard and tap “Join the Challenge”.

The Sweat Challenge begins on January 11, 2021. On this day, you'll see your first week of exclusive Challenge workouts! To help you prepare for the Sweat Challenge, follow me on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube where I regularly share tips to help you train with confidence.

The Challenge runs for six weeks, ending on Sunday, February 22, 2021, and if you miss the start, you can still join any time until January 31, 2021.

Who is the Challenge for?

My Sweat Challenge is for everyone! There are two different levels of this program, “Starting Out” and “Challenge Me”, and you can choose your level of difficulty when you sign up to the Challenge.

“Starting Out” is an achievable program for those women who are new to BUILD or my powerbuilding training style. It will help you develop the foundational skills of lifting heavier weights, establish good technique in key movement patterns, and a consistent training pattern so that you can transition into my BUILD program at the end of the six-week Challenge.

If you are on Week 6 of my BUILD program or are experienced with heavy lifting, I recommend you select “Challenge Me”. The strength workouts in this program focus on training specific areas of the body.

Both are progressive programs that will increase your strength and help you to establish a regular training routine.

How is the Challenge different from the regular BUILD program?

This six-week Challenge is for lifting beginners, as well as women already training with BUILD or LIFTING at Home. The exclusive workouts are only available during the Challenge, so make the most of them. 

Here's how the BUILD Sweat Challenge is different from the regular BUILD program:

No 1RM

The Sweat Challenge workouts don't use your 1RM (one-rep max) as a guide to selecting the correct weight. 

For those starting out, this means that you can focus on forming healthy habits and gaining confidence with heavier weights. At the end of the six weeks, you'll be ready to start BUILD.

If you regularly train using your 1RM, this six-week program gives you a break, allowing you to focus on hypertrophy — building muscle volume with higher repetitions of each exercise. Deloading from heavy training allows you to come back stronger than ever, you may even find that you increase your 1RM by taking a break.

Shorter workouts

Both the workouts and the rest breaks are shorter in the Challenge — so you can focus on hitting every single workout!

Trisets

Trisets are sets of three exercises, done at a lighter weight. This workout structure builds cardiovascular strength and muscle volume, as your muscles spend more time under load.

What equipment is needed? 

Both streams of my BUILD Sweat Challenge require the use of gym equipment and machines.

What to expect during the BUILD Challenge

One of the key distinctions between the two levels of difficulty in the BUILD Challenge programs is that the exercises in “Starting Out” are less complex than those you’ll find in “Challenge Me”. There are also fewer scheduled weekly workouts and reduced exercise volume, or number of reps. During the BUILD Challenge, your weekly schedule will look like this:

Starting Out

  • 3 Resistance workouts
  • 2 Express workouts (optional)
  • 1 Bonus Challenge workout 
  • 2 Cardio workouts
  • 2 Recovery session

Challenge Me

  • 4 Resistance workouts
  • 2 Express workouts (optional)
  • 1 Bonus Challenge workout
  • 2 Cardio workouts
  • 2 Recovery sessions

Is it possible to change program levels after the Challenge begins?

Yes, it is. Simply use the icon at the top right of your app to update your program selection. 

What happens after the Challenge?

Whichever stream you choose, at the end of the six-week Sweat Challenge, you'll be ready to transition into BUILD. 

You can either start at the beginning or choose a specific week to restart at the level you were at before the Sweat Challenge, with renewed motivation.

Becoming stronger takes time and effort, but even after one of my workouts, you will feel like you can achieve anything! As you progress through my BUILD Challenge program, your confidence will grow as much as your strength does — and you will be amazed at what you are capable of.
